There's nothing quite like a slow afternoon by the pool, and residents at Wesley Place know just how to make the most of it. Whether you're soaking up the sun solo after a long week or gathering friends for a weekend hangout, having the right essentials on hand makes all the difference. Here's your go to packing list for a perfect pool day at home.

1. Sun Protection First

Before anything else, pack the basics that keep you comfortable in the Georgia heat. A broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher is non negotiable, and it's worth reapplying every couple of hours, especially after time in the water. A wide brimmed hat and a good pair of sunglasses round out your first line of defense against the sun.

2. A Comfortable Towel and Cover Up

Bring a towel large enough to fully stretch out on your lounge chair, plus a lightweight cover up or throw for when the breeze picks up or you head back inside. A cover up also makes it easy to run a quick errand without needing to change first.

3. Hydration and Snacks

Sun and water make it easy to lose track of how much you're sweating, so pack plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the afternoon. A refillable water bottle with ice keeps things cold for hours. Light snacks like fresh fruit, trail mix, or veggies and hummus are easy to pack and won't weigh you down.

4. Something to Read or Listen To

A pool day is the perfect excuse to finally start that book on your nightstand or catch up on a podcast. Waterproof phone pouches are a great way to protect your device while still keeping your music or audiobook within reach.

5. Pool Friendly Games and Entertainment

If you're bringing friends or family, a few pool floats, a deck of cards, or a portable speaker can turn a quiet afternoon into a memorable hangout. Just be sure to keep the volume considerate of your neighbors also enjoying the space.

6. A Small Bag for the Essentials

Keep everything organized with a lightweight tote or beach bag. It makes packing up at the end of the day quick and easy, and keeps your phone, keys, and wallet safe and dry in one place.

Enjoy Resort Style Living at Wesley Place

Our residents have access to a beautifully maintained pool right at home, making it easy to enjoy a refreshing afternoon without ever leaving the community. Grab your towel, pack your essentials, and head down to make the most of the season.

Summer in Lawrenceville is full of sunshine, warm evenings, and plenty of Georgia heat. While the season brings a lot to look forward to, it can also bring rising energy bills as your air conditioner carries the load day after day. At Wesley Place Apartments, we care about making sure our residents feel comfortable at home without worrying about the cost. Here are some of our best tips for staying cool and keeping your energy use in check all summer long.

1. Be Strategic with Your Thermostat

Your thermostat is one of the most powerful tools you have for managing energy costs. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends setting it to 78°F when you are home and raising it a few degrees when you leave or go to bed. For every degree you increase the setting, you can save up to 3% on your cooling costs over time.

If your apartment has a programmable or smart thermostat, set it up with a schedule that reflects your typical day. Your AC should not have to run at full strength when the apartment is empty and no one is there to benefit from it.

2. Get More Out of Your Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans are a simple and effective way to stretch the comfort of your AC further. They do not lower the actual air temperature, but the movement of air creates a cooling effect that makes a room feel several degrees cooler. That allows you to raise your thermostat by about 4°F while still feeling comfortable throughout the day.

For best results in the summer, confirm your fan is spinning counterclockwise to push cooler air downward. Turn fans off when you step out of a room since they cool the people in the space, not the space itself.

3. Keep the Sun Out During the Hottest Hours

A significant amount of unwanted heat enters your apartment through the windows, especially during peak afternoon sun. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., keep your blinds, curtains, or shades closed on south and west facing windows to stop heat from building up inside your home.

Blackout curtains or thermal drapes are an affordable upgrade that pay off quickly in energy savings. They are especially helpful in rooms that get a lot of direct sunlight throughout the day.

4. Rethink Your Appliance Habits

Many of the appliances you use every day give off more heat than you might realize, and making a few small adjustments can keep your apartment cooler and reduce strain on your AC.

On hot days, cook with a microwave, slow cooker, or air fryer rather than heating up the full oven. Run your dishwasher and washing machine in the evening or early morning when outdoor temperatures are lower. If you have not yet made the switch to LED bulbs, now is the perfect time since they produce far less heat than traditional incandescent options. Also get in the habit of unplugging chargers and electronics when you are not using them because they continue drawing power and generating heat even when sitting idle.

5. Check for Drafts and Air Leaks

Gaps around windows and exterior doors let cool air slip out and warm air creep in, making your AC work harder than it needs to. Take a few minutes to check around your window frames and the bottoms of exterior doors for any noticeable drafts.

If you find anything that needs attention, our maintenance team at Wesley Place is ready to help. Simply submit a request and we will get it taken care of. A draft stopper at the base of a door is also a quick and low cost way to reduce air loss while you wait.

6. Open Your Windows When the Temperature Drops

Your AC does not need to run around the clock to keep your apartment comfortable. On cooler mornings and evenings, generally before 8 a.m. and after 8 p.m., open your windows to bring in fresh air and give your system a much needed break. Opening windows on opposite sides of your apartment encourages a natural cross breeze that circulates cool air without using any energy at all.

Once the outdoor temperature rises above the temperature inside your home, close the windows back up and let the AC take over for the rest of the day.

7. Keep Your AC Filter Fresh

A dirty air filter forces your AC unit to work harder to push air through your apartment, which drives up energy costs and can also affect the air quality in your home. During the summer months, make it a habit to check your filter every month and replace it every one to three months depending on your household.

If you ever have questions about your filter or need support with your HVAC system, the Wesley Place maintenance team is here and happy to help. Just reach out and we will get it sorted quickly.

8. Use the Naturally Cooler Areas of Your Apartment

Heat rises and sun exposed rooms warm up faster than interior spaces, so some areas of your apartment will naturally stay cooler than others throughout the day. During the hottest afternoon hours, spend time in those cooler spots and keep interior doors open so that cool air from your AC can circulate freely throughout your entire home rather than pooling in just one area.

Enjoy a Comfortable Summer at Wesley Place

Keeping your apartment cool and your energy bill reasonable this summer is more achievable than it might seem. A few simple changes to your daily habits can make a real difference in both your comfort and your monthly costs. And when you want to step outside and enjoy all that Lawrenceville has to offer, our community is a wonderful place to do it.

Whenever you have a maintenance need or a question about your home, the team at Wesley Place Apartments is always here for you. We are proud to be the place you come home to.

Here is to a cool, relaxed, and energy smart summer from all of us at Wesley Place Apartments!

Clever Kitchen Space Strategies for Apartments

Apartment living calls for smart use of space—especially in the kitchen, where functionality and organization matter most. At Wesley Place, residents benefit from stylish kitchens featuring granite countertops, blending visual appeal with durable, easy-to-clean surfaces. But to truly make the most of your kitchen, it’s essential to think beyond design and focus on space efficiency.

Whether you cook daily or only occasionally, a thoughtfully arranged kitchen makes apartment life easier. Here are practical strategies to help you maximize space and enjoy your kitchen to the fullest.

1. Let Granite Countertops Work for You

Granite countertops offer a sturdy, expansive workspace—but how you manage that surface makes a big difference.

Tips:

  • Avoid overcrowding counters with small appliances or decor.

  • Use trays to group items like oils, spices, or utensils to keep things organized and mobile.

  • Place cutting boards or drying racks that fit over the sink to expand your workspace temporarily.

Maximizing this central area can streamline meal prep and clean-up routines.

2. Rethink Cabinet Organization

Cabinet space is valuable real estate in any apartment kitchen. Instead of stacking items randomly, use organizing tools that help double the space.

Ideas include:

  • Shelf risers to create additional tiers for plates or dry goods

  • Pull-out bins or baskets for easy access to deep shelves

  • Lazy Susans in corner cabinets for spices or canned goods

Keeping everyday essentials accessible—and stored efficiently—makes your kitchen feel larger and more practical.

3. Add Vertical Storage Solutions

When horizontal space is limited, vertical storage options can help you gain functionality without taking up floor space.

Consider these:

  • Wall-mounted rails or hooks for utensils, mugs, or pot holders

  • Magnetic strips for knives to save drawer room

  • Floating shelves for frequently used items or decorative jars

These solutions make excellent use of open wall areas and free up crowded drawers and cabinets.

4. Use Furniture That Multitasks

Small kitchens benefit from pieces that can serve multiple purposes without adding clutter.

  • A rolling kitchen island with storage can add prep space and move out of the way when not in use.

  • Bar stools that tuck under a countertop save space and reduce visual bulk.

  • Fold-out tables or drop-leaf carts provide additional surface area without permanent commitment.

Choose items that serve both form and function to enhance kitchen versatility.

5. Make the Most of Drawer Space

Drawers can quickly become junk zones unless managed with purpose. Use dividers and shallow containers to sort utensils, cooking tools, and even spices.

Some ideas to optimize drawers:

  • Flatware organizers to prevent mixed-up cutlery

  • Stackable trays for smaller kitchen gadgets

  • Non-slip liners to keep everything in place

Efficient drawer use keeps your kitchen tidy and cuts down on the time you spend searching for tools.

6. Keep Up with Decluttering

Even a well-organized kitchen can feel tight if it's overloaded with items you don’t use. Regularly review what’s stored and get rid of anything you no longer need.

  • Check expiration dates on pantry items

  • Donate or store rarely used appliances elsewhere

  • Revisit your setup every few months to keep your system working

Consistency with decluttering helps maintain the flow and openness of your kitchen.

Kitchen Layouts That Support Smart Living

Space-saving isn’t just about storage—it starts with the right layout. Wesley Place offers thoughtfully designed kitchen configurations that make it easier to stay organized and efficient, even in limited square footage. See available options in their updated floor plans.

Eco-Friendly Living Tips for Apartments in Lawrenceville, GA

So, you’ve moved into your new apartment and want to live a little greener—but you’re not sure where to start. Good news: eco-living doesn’t have to be complicated. Whether you’re in a cozy one-bedroom or sharing a three-bedroom unit at Wesley Place, there are tons of practical ways to reduce your environmental footprint—right from home.

Here’s how to embrace a more eco-conscious lifestyle in your apartment, without overhauling your entire routine.

1. Use Energy Efficiently

Apartments typically consume less energy than single-family homes, but there’s always room for improvement:

  • Swap out bulbs with LED lighting, which uses significantly less energy and lasts longer.

  • Unplug electronics when not in use—yes, even your coffee maker and phone charger.

  • Adjust your thermostat by just a few degrees to save energy while staying comfortable.

  • Close blinds during the day in summer to keep things cool, and let in natural light during the winter months.

Bonus tip: If your apartment comes with ceiling fans, use them to circulate air and reduce the need for AC.

2. Conserve Water Daily

Water conservation might seem like a drop in the bucket, but those drops add up:

  • Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.

  • Only run full loads of laundry and dishes.

  • Use cold water for washing clothes—it’s better for your clothes and the environment.

  • Report any leaks or running toilets to maintenance right away.

Living at Wesley Place means you're part of a modern community where being proactive about maintenance helps everyone save water and energy.

3. Reduce Waste Where You Can

Waste reduction is a big part of eco-friendly living, and it starts with daily habits:

  • Use reusable grocery bags, food containers, and water bottles.

  • Set up a simple recycling station in your kitchen or pantry.

  • Buy in bulk when possible to cut down on packaging waste.

  • Repurpose jars and containers instead of throwing them out.

Wesley Place offers roomy floorplans that make it easy to stay organized. Check out our available 1, 2 & 3 bedroom layouts here.

4. Decorate with the Planet in Mind

You don’t need to sacrifice style to go green. In fact, sustainable decorating can be super chic:

  • Shop second-hand for furniture and home accents.

  • Use natural fabrics like cotton, linen, or jute for rugs and curtains.

  • Bring in a few houseplants to purify the air and add a cozy vibe.

  • Avoid fast furniture—opt for well-made pieces that will last longer and reduce waste.

Eco-friendly design doesn’t have to be expensive—just thoughtful.

5. Choose Greener Transportation Options

Wesley Place is conveniently located near shops, restaurants, and parks in Lawrenceville, GA, making alternative transportation options easier than you might think:

  • Walk or bike when possible—great for your health and the planet.

  • Carpool with coworkers or neighbors to save on gas and emissions.

  • Plan errands in batches to reduce unnecessary driving.

Even if you’re not ready for an electric vehicle, cutting down on short car trips still makes a big difference.

Working from home in a 1 bedroom apartment can feel like your tasks and rest life are sharing the same space. At Wesley Place in Lawrenceville, you already have a beautiful foundation—a thoughtfully designed apartment, ample natural light, and community amenities built for comfort. With intentional organization and a few space-saving design moves, your 1 bedroom can become both your calm retreat and your productive workspace.

Define Your Workspace with Purpose

No separate office? No problem. Choose a dedicated corner or wall for your desk—maybe by a window to let in natural light in the morning. A slim console or a compact desk works well. When work is done, close the laptop, clear the desk, and let that area fade back into your living space. That visual separation helps your mind relax.

Go Up to Open Up

When floor space is limited, use wall space. Floating shelves above your desk area or along blank walls can hold books, office supplies, or decorative items you love. Pegboards or wall rails help keep tools, notepads, or headphones in reach but off your workspace surface. Using storage bins under the bed or storage ottomans lets you hide what you don’t need every day. Wesley Place’s layout supports these vertical storage solutions nicely.

Choose Furniture That Multitasks

Multipurpose furniture makes life easier in a 1 bedroom. A ottoman with storage hides clutter. A sofa that doubles as guest bed or seating. A desk with drawers reduces the need for extra cabinets. Even a bed with built-in storage drawers frees up closet space. These selections help you maintain both style and function in your apartment.

Reduce Wires and Tidy Daily

Cords, cables, chargers—these small things can quickly make a space feel messy. Use cable organizers, under-desk trays, and clips to route wires out of sight. Keep frequently used items like pens, chargers, notebooks in small trays or drawer organizers. When you finish work, spend a minute putting things away. That small habit goes a long way toward preserving peace.

Let Light Be Your Ally

Light improves mood, energy, and even the perceived size of your apartment. Position your workspace so you benefit from natural light—Wesley Place often offers great windows to do this. Use sheer curtains to soften glare without darkening the room. When it’s darker outside, mix task lighting (for focused work) with ambient or accent lighting to reduce harsh shadows.

Subtle Boundaries for Work & Rest

Even in a 1 bedroom, you can create zones without walls. A rug beneath your desk anchors your work area visually. A tall plant, shelving unit, or decorative screen can separate the workspace from your relaxation area. These visual cues help your brain switch between “work time” and “rest time” without needing large partitions.

Curate Simplicity

Less is more in small spaces. Keep surfaces mostly clear—desk only for what you need. Store items not used daily in drawers or storage bins. Select décor that inspires you: a favorite picture, a plant you enjoy caring for, a throw. Rotate pieces seasonally to keep things feeling fresh. A minimal, curated home reflects peace and purpose.

Personal Touches That Motivate

Your work area should feel personal. Include something that lifts you each day—a plant, art, favorite mug, or cozy cushion. These touches make working from home feel more joyful. They don’t have to take much space to make a big impact on how you feel and work.

Final Thoughts

Working from home in a 1 bedroom apartment like those at Wesley Place in Lawrenceville is absolutely doable—and can be delightful when you approach your space with intention. By defining a clear work zone, using smart storage, choosing multitasking furniture, managing light and clutter, and surrounding yourself with things that bring you joy—you’ll create a home that supports both productivity and peace.

If you're ready to see how these ideas feel in real life, schedule a tour of the 1 bedroom apartments at Wesley Place. With modern finishes, thoughtfully designed floor plans, and amenities built for comfort, you might find your ideal work-from-home balance here.
